NBC5 is helping train the next generation of media professionals through the NBC5 Next internship program. The program was developed in conjunction with the Columbia College Journalism Department. Two broadcast students -- Mary Elizabeth Medawar and Brian Anthony Miller -- will be pitching their story ideas to the NBC5 newsroom staff once a week this summer. Once they're given an assignment, they have one week to shoot, report and edit one story each. They will also re-write the story for the Web, along with other added online components including creating slideshows, blogging, podcasting and whatever else we can think of to throw at them. Visit this page throughout the summer to watch and read Mary and Brian's work.

There's an even younger set of budding journalists and filmmakers in our midst. Film and TV students at Chicago Public Schools have been uploading their movies, newscast and broadcast stories to www.nbc5.com/myvideo since the fall of 2006. Check it out, and feel free to upload your own videos!
